No, I don't buy into the whole 2012 end of the world thing, but there's already people trying to link this to it. I expect someone to dig up some old doomsday prophecy that says the sky will turn red with blood before the end.

  1. You'd think if the world was going to end people would be more apathetic.

  2. Wait, the sky turning "red with blood"? I'm pretty sure there's no blood in that sky. That's not even "red as blood"; it's more "orange with clay".

  3. @ Nathaniel: People trying to interpret prophecies so they come true are never stopped by something so simple. It was much darker and redder in the early morning, I saw some of the pictures taken then. But even so, the ancients wouldn't have known what caused the sky to turn reddish orange (most dust storms don't have this color). So in the prophecies they call it blood.

I'm not trying to defend the crazy prophetic way of thinking. I'm just point out that little details like that won't stop them.

  4. Years ago I went through some nasty stuff while living in Orange County / Southern California the ash stirred up by fires was the cause, but things looked a bit reddish. I about got killed due to an asthma attack when I went out exercising and the sky looked nasty, but I was the only fool that went outside to exercise.

The video showed several bicyclists and a runner. Any chance the camera has a red filter?

  5. @ Looney: Doubtful. There are many other videos and photographs of the storm. Many are by official news sources. This really was a red dust storm.
