ReplyDelete2k11 was an odd year.
ReplyDeleteHappy New Year. Nice to know you're still out there.
ReplyDeleteNobody mentions the faster-than-light neutrinos!
ReplyDeleteThe Guy Fawkes image is always a puzzling one. He was fighting for a Catholic theocracy in England, but didn't succeed.
@ Looney: That's because there is a possible explanation for the FTL neutrinos... An error correcting for relativity in the GPS clocks. What's perplexing is they've reproduced the FTL results, and still didn't correct the GPS clock issue.
ReplyDeleteThe Guy Fawkes mask became popular after the movie "V For Vendetta". That movie takes place in a future dystopian United Kingdom, the protagonist wears that mask and succeeded in overthrowing an Orwellian government. It's basically become a symbol of "the internet" against oppressive governments or organizations.
@Marf, yes, I saw V for Vendetta. The imagery still represents the Trojan nature of anti-oppression movements - where anti-oppression is a pretext for greater oppression. Out of the frying pan, and into the fire!
