«Julian Assange»

Here's to the man with the biggest balls in the world: Julian Assange. You know the guy's got balls when Ron Paul supports him.

In a free society we're supposed to know the truth,... ...In a society where truth becomes treason, then we're in big trouble. And now, people who are revealing the truth are getting into trouble for it.

- Ron Paul

Julian Assange is of course the founder of Wikileaks. Unless you've made an effort to avoid the news completely, you've been hearing a lot about Wikileaks lately.

I fully support Wikileaks in publishing the diplomatic cables. That sort of thing should be public information anyway. There is very little that a government should withhold from its own people. Strategic troop locations come to mind as one thing that has a legitimate reason to be classified. Remember, the US government is of the people, by the people, for the people.

  1. Im not a fan of Ron Paul. I had somewhat mixed views about the wikileaks recent stuff ( and will probably write about that at some point some0.
My reservations are mostly that the leaks are very one sided. Essentially the lid is getting blown off the way our givernments operate while China and other more totalitarian societies get to operate pretty much free from this kind of discolure - unless they have been talkng to a US ambassadir of course.

Despite that I do think that the US establishment is being very clumsy in its reaction and the recent oves to close wikileaks down, threaten assange etc etc should be denounced. On balance I think that woikileaks shoudl be defended then at this time even though I do think what there doing borders on the extremely reckless.

  2. @ Bunc: I'd imagine countries like China have more severe punishment should someone defect. The US leaks may be higher profile, but they are by no means only leaking US documents. You just hear about the US leaks more due to the media coverage.

Anything that happens in the US is big news all over the world.

  3. If only we still had the balls as a country to assassinate this guy. Assangeinate. Lol.
