«Spore Empire Half Way»

I've talked about Spore on and off before on this blog. Here's what I've been doing in Spore. I think it's fair to say I own half of my arm of the galaxy now.

Massive Vort Empire in Spore

What do these ultra-powerful aliens look like? Look to the alien pictured down the page a bit and to the right. I modeled them after the Vortigaunts from the Half-Life series. I call them Vorts. Although in the Half-Life series the Vortigaunts are good guys. In Spore, I play the Vorts as a ruthless race bent upon the destruction of every other empire in their arm. So it is fitting that they are allied with the game's main villains: the Grox.

Within the Vort's territory, they are the only space-fairing species. They have exterminated 292 other space empires in their conquest for total galactic arm domination. The game doesn't tell me exactly how many colonies they actually have; I really wish it did.
The Vorts entered space wide-eyed and excited about all the infinite scientific possibilities space travel had to offer. However, they came to find that all the empires around them were hostile and demanding tribute they could not afford. Driven to the brink of extinction, and hardened by the reality of space, the Vorts adopted a new philosophy and quickly became a superpower in the galaxy. Rivaled only by their new-found allies, the Grox.
Many of those flags you see are multiple systems so close together that from this distance you only see one flag. A good example are the flags in the upper left corner. One of those is actually 5 systems that circle a wormhole. There are also quite a few systems that have more than one planet colonized within.

Every colonized planet is T3, has at least 3 filled out cities (all with max happiness), and a full compliment of city wall turrets. Each planet also has an uber turret, spice storage, bio protector, bio stabilizer, happiness booster, and loyalty booster. Yeah, a lot of time was spent doing this.

    1. Whoa, I have like 40 or more systems, I'm the only superpower in the vicinity, but you have half of a galactic spiral arm!

  3. Oh my god. This is badass.

    ReplyDelete
  4. @ Anonymous: Thanks. It is quite a large empire. Since I posted this, I've filled out a little more in a few of the gaps. However, I've been concentrating on a few of my other empires. They're not anywhere near as big.

  5. May as well make the 'galactic arm colonization ray'

    ReplyDelete
  6. @ Anonymous: Well, a "galactic arm colonization ray" would make my job easier, but a lot less impressive.

    ReplyDelete
  7. How do you have flags appear above your systems?

    ReplyDelete
  8. @ Anonymous (#7): I believe that feature was introduced in the official Patch 1. As each newer patch also includes the older ones, just get the newest patch and you'll be set.

Once you have the newest patch installed, load up a saved space game and zoom out as far as you can.

  9. good god that is quite the empire....

i haven't nearly gotten that big of an empire but i have quite a few more master plans than most of the other spore players.... i've been playing for about a couple weeks now and i have already come up with the brilliant idea of creating sentient species on planets that i want to colonize then methodically taking out all then colonies on said planets and getting 7 extra colonies on said planets >:)

    ReplyDelete
  10. @ Anonymous (#9): I've did that many times. The Zealot superpower is invaluable for capturing a planet without destroying any of the cities.

    ReplyDelete
  11. ...wow... mine is only half the size of yours.

    ReplyDelete
  12. I did the same, just that i did not get THAT thorough in planet takeovers. Every 20 parasecs I did one perfected planet, but all over the galaxy, while happily eradicating everything that I see.

    ReplyDelete
  13. @ Pat: That's impressive. I've pretty much stopped playing since I installed the expansion (Galactic Adventures). It did something to my game... Now it takes literally 5 minutes to start the game, and another 5 to load a save.

I should uninstall it, then reinstall without the expansion. I copied out my saved games before I installed the expansion, so I shouldn't lose much.

  14. wow that bigger than the grox empire

    ReplyDelete
  15. But going to be hard like they said when your empire grow it be hard to control becuase of the deasease.

    ReplyDelete
  16. @ Anonymous (#15): Not so. With the uber turret, bio protector, and bio stabilizer the colonies require no maintenance. I never have bio-disasters and pirate raids/enemy empire attacks are over 2 seconds after they're reported.

    ReplyDelete
  17. how did you do that...? =o

    ReplyDelete
  18. @ Anonymous (#17): A lot of time... But I've moved on from Spore now, I don't play it much anymore.

    ReplyDelete
  19. you really need to get a life is that all u do play a kids game when most people are doing normal things like getting laid, getting drunk an being as high as a kite. obviously u havent done any of them. lmao.

    ReplyDelete
  20. @ Anonymous (#19): While your assumptions were meant to be insulting, you are right. I've never been laid, and I'm proud of the fact that I've never been drunk or high.

    ReplyDelete
  21. Bloody Hell man! I take my Hat OFF to you mate!
How long did this take you?!
oh btw-the Galactic Adventures expansion uses about half the memory of the original Spore, so if you dont have enough memory on your computer then it will take a while to load, you'l have to get a RAM stick or upgrade your HD to get it to load really quickly.
Great empire though mate, post another pic when you finish the arm XD

    ReplyDelete
  22. Hey Marf it takes 5 minutes at least for mine to load up too. Glad to know Im not alone

    ReplyDelete
  23. Holy shit, I'll never get an empire that big! I came close to a quarter of my arm, and a little around Earth, but I planet bustered like 60 planets and couldn'y get to my colonies fast enough to protect them. By the end I had shrunk tenfold. :(

    ReplyDelete
  24. @ Anonymous (#24): Yeah, if you planet buster in range of other empires they get pretty pissed off.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Hey, This is absolutely amazing...
If you woudln't mind sending me the gamesave, I could continue on, as long as that's alright.
I've got a lot of time on my hands, and could easily take another finger.
Also, how the fuck do you ally with the grox....
    Kindest Regards, Ollie.

    ReplyDelete
  26. And, by the way...
@that chav who seems to think that taking drugs is normal, I've got this to say:
Rather be at home, within the safety of my walls, playing a computer game and having a select group of friends who get me, despite the face that I, and Marf possibly, are seen by the wider community as 'nerds.'
Also, if you think he's such a sad-arse, why the hell are you touring his blog.
All I've got to say is; Fuck off.

    ReplyDelete
  27. It's always sorta interesting when people take it upon themselves to defend me. They get far more offended by people insulting me than I do.

Not that I mind it. It makes me feel more important than I really am when other people defend me.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Im Spore-nerd again... im just checking if u guys see my comment? Plz tell me if u see this. Oh and im trying to colonize the entire universe with my Zealot empire. But then again i wont be able to make any new games if i do that...also ill have to delete all my other saved games which is fine by me because i only have 1 more desent saved game. The others are completely dumb.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Opps, i didnt do the word thing on my other blog... lol i didnt see it there...anyway u can call me Spore-nerd or whatever works for you...im still reserching on the Grox but i dont know if people are just making stuff up or not... If you ask me, I think Maxis is a genius. If i spelt that wrong its because im not as smart as maxis ^^

    ReplyDelete
  30. But what are the odds I will ever do that in this life time? Not much at all... but a Spore-nerd can dream cant he? Apperently not..... ^-^

    ReplyDelete
  31. Ill comment in about a week or so if i can remember... I changed my name from Anonymous to... you know... ^o^

    ReplyDelete
  32. I have yet to ally with the Grox though...

    ReplyDelete
  33. >_< <_< thats what usualy happens to me when I meet the Grox... (>_< Grox)... if u didnt already know that, SHAME ON YOU!

    ReplyDelete
  34. wow :D u should seiriously go for owning every grox planet too, then the whole galaxy... but just one thing.... did u use the moremoney cheat or other cheats to accomplich this?

    ReplyDelete
  35. @ Anonymous (#35): No cheats were used. It's quite easy to make enough money once you are established.

    ReplyDelete
  36. Yeah, just colonize a bunch of Purple spice plaets, and max the spice production rates, and add a Spice storage.

    ReplyDelete
  37. Purple spice is the most valuable spice of them all. I dont know about everyone else, but from what Ive heard, the most is about $57,003 or somewhere around that amount for just 1 crate of purple spice. BUT on mine, i sell purple spice for 72,002 or 76,002. If there's a glitch in my game or something, please tell me. By the way, i was just wondering, what do the Happiness boosters and Loyalty booster actualy do? I used them twice, but they dont seem to do anything. Someone please tell me what they do.

    ReplyDelete
  38. If you ever do colonize the entire arm, they should realy give you an item to colonize a whole other arm in just a click. But that wont happen ^^

    ReplyDelete
  39. By the way... I know why the Grox are always against the Galactic Code and are never 'happy'.
The Grox are a species that can not be Enlightened, A.K.A meeting Steve. Which is why they are living in the center of the galaxy. I read about the 'not Enlightened' thing, and fighured the rest on my own. NOT MAKING THIS UP LIKE SOME PEOPLE!!! ^^

    ReplyDelete
  40. You know, if u look at it closly, it dosnt really look like u got every system in some areas... but that could just be a glitch...

    ReplyDelete
  41. @ Spore-Nerd: I don't have every system. They are all at least within warp distance of each other, and there are no other empires within my territory.

    ReplyDelete
  42. if this helps, when you said it dosnt tell you how many colonies you have, if you check your history it sais 'Colony Placed' but im not sure if that will really help... this will be my last comment sense ive done 8 comments already... srry bout that ^^

    ReplyDelete
  43. Well... I thought I had a big empire(between the 50 and 60 planets) an then I saw this... The pride I had for the race that I created(The Morsopolitans) left in a second.

You are amazing guy! I think I will never have the patience to do this!

PD: Sorry for my probably bad english, I'm spanish and I barely talk it.

    ReplyDelete
  44. Believe it or not, I think I might have more systems than you on my best-going empire 0_0 if i could change their name I SOOOOOOO would... i never relized they would come all this way so fast. Im 3 years into Spore, and im no where near discovering all of Spore's secrets...(my best empire is called the Zzeebs, and if i would have found this, i would have called them the Zzorts). Not to be a freakish coppier, but I cant resist using that name (if i could, anyway) I think the only reason my empirr is so advancd over the others, is because around my home planet, and just about anywhere my empire goes,(wierdly), there are purple spice planets, allowing me to make 99,999 sporebucks (or spucks) at any given time. At first i was going to ally the grox, but I guess I messed up because I went STRAIGHT to the galactic core WITHGOUGHT destorying any or their ships, but I 'avoided contact' as they put it... that was mystake #1. #2 was that I acidently droped a bomb on one of thier colonies. I know what your thinking- THIS GUY IS SUCH A NOOB!! HOW DO YOU ACIDENTLY DROP A BOMB!?!? Well, ocasionaly my mouse messes up and a bomb (or something else) just keeps dropping untill I press the button again. #3 was that I left my auto blaster on after i went back home for a little visit (ending up starting a war with the Minor Empire), and i guess I destroyed a Grox ship, and that was all i needed for them to declare war on me.It had been a long day of playing, and i had no choice but to save. I wasnt actualy wanting to just ally with the Grox, (Sense the Zzeebs Empire is a Zealot Empire, and allying with the Grox would make no sense whatsoever) I was experimenting to see if i could possibly get both badges: Dancing With The Devil, and Badge Outta Heck, by allying them and THEN destroying them... Yes i am getting off topic so ill just stop here. Hopfully THIS will be my last post, but no promisses sense i have this page on my favorites list. I just love spore so much... in a mettiforic way. I have actualy learned from this game, alot more than most educational games I have ever played in my life time. THANKS AGAIN MAXIS ^^

    ReplyDelete
  45. My empire is just in one big heap, so its kinda hard to tell if i have more (I DONT KNOW, NOR THINK I HAVE MORE SYSTEMS THAN YOU) If you have a problem with your history, then tell me, because on mine (Zzeebs anyway) the history is all 'mixed and glitched' yes thats a catchy ryhme. Anyway, the cell stage (in history) is completly untouched, while my creature and tribal stage are morfed together on the line below, but NOTHING on the pages. THEN they show up on the civilization stage. so in civ. stage, i have half of creature, tribal, and civ. stage. space stage? I CANT EVEN READ ONE THING ITS SO PACKED WITH JUNK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  46. I finaly found Earth.... about 15 days ago, anyway. (And destoryed it (not permanetly)
My screen name is EmperorGrox. Look up meh adventures. I will be adding more soon.

    ReplyDelete
  47. Probably the most retarded question of all time, but do you have to press the 'share' button for your adventues to post your adventure online?!?!
P.S. Try to make the $ sign in spore! ROFL ^^

So yeah my screen name is EmperorGrox, but now i would like to change it to EmperorZzeeb... O.o
Im starting a new series called: Ruined Civilization. LOOK IT UP DANG IT!!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  48. Forget the idea that I have more systems than you. >_>

    ReplyDelete
  49. That's what I am trying to do.
How far are you now? Are you still playing?

    ReplyDelete
  50. ...anyone else think Spore-Nerd should die already? Dude, Marf, you have a creepy stalker.

    "Spore-Nerd": Chill. No Opheliacs Allowed.

Either way, nice set-up. Much patience, you have, Master Marf. (I almost said Young Marf, but considering your empire's size and strength...yeah...that'd be inaccurate)

    ReplyDelete
  51. @ Lyd: No, I haven't played Spore for a long time now.

@ Anonymous (#51): Ah, Spore-Nerd is ok. Creepy stalkers are part of the package deal when you run a blog.

    ReplyDelete
  52. Yeah well, thats just how much I like Spore ok?

    ReplyDelete
  53. COMMENTING ON A COMP AINT CONSIDERED STALKINGG.
